Bruno Amsellem (France)

Bruno Amsellem started his career as a press photographer in 1997. He works in France and goes abroad on a regular basis. The "Visa pour l'image" festival showed “Les enfants du Noma” in 2006, “Zabbalines, les chiffonniers du Caire” in 2012, and exhibited “Rohingyas une minorité sans voix” in 2014. He exhibited his work on the presidential election for the “Mois de l’image” festival in Ho Chi Minh-Ville, Vietnam, in 2007. The “Centre d’histoire de la résistance et de la déportation” (Center for the History of the Resistance and Deportation) in Lyon exhibited “Voyages pendulaires”, an assignment on the migrations of Gypsies between France and Romania in 2010. In addition, his assignments carried out in Cairo, Romania, Pakistan and Burma were published in the national and international press.

He lives in Lyon and works for the daily press and for magazines. Bruno Amsellem has been a member of “Signatures, maison de photographes” since it was created. Bruno Amsellem uses the Fuji X-Pro1 and X-T1 cameras for all his assignments abroad as well as for many assignments covered in France.

Firstly, this equipment is discreet so I can go more unnoticed in the field, especially in risky countries but it also helps me get in touch more easily with the people I capture, as opposed to imposing SLRs. The menus and functions of the X-Pro1 and X-T1 cameras are easy to use, saving a lot of time in the field. The file quality and rendering make it possible to deliver a texture truly reminiscent of silver-based printing when you do exhibition prints – no need to add special filters, the smooth part of images has vanished.

Secondly, the wide range of lenses makes it possible to work in any situation, from landscapes to portraits, from news stories to corporate assignments, with a very high optical quality.

Lastly, although I give my equipment a rough time when I work on assignments abroad, both the camera bodies and lenses have never failed me.
